NOTE: THIS FILM IS IN RUSSIAN WITH NO ENGLISH SUBTITLES OR DUBBING. Two fatherless boys, roughly ten and fourteen years of age, burglarize a store but are caught soon thereafter. The older is considered responsible for the act and sent to reform school while the younger now has to fend for himself without the protection of his taller pal. As our young hero dodges schoolyard bullies and muggers who desire the loot he earns playing an accordion on street corners, he befriends an older man who takes on a paternal role and helps him maintain his friendship with his incarcerated friend. If you are not familiar with the Russian language, you are going to be lost during the final twenty or so minutes of this one, but the rest of the film can be generally followed and is quite enjoyable to watch; recommended!
Warning (rated NR): adult themes; violence; brief/moderate nudity.
1999; aka Who Else if Not Us; in Russian with no subtitles or dubbing; 93 minutes; cast unknown.
