From renowned directors Paolo and Vittorio Taviani comes this true story about Gavino Ledda and his attempt to break free from the oppression of his brutal father. The film starts with the boy (Fabrizio Forte), roughly eight years of age, being dragged out of school by his dad to begin a life of shepparding sheep. In the isolated hills, he is basically beaten into submission, made to be his father's slave. The last two-thirds of the movie place Gavino at about twenty, show his eventual rebellion and struggle to educate himself in spite of his dad's continued attempt to make him do as he pleases. Highy praised, and the winner of a number of awards, including the Cannes Golden Palm Award. Based on Ledda's autobiography. Sad, interesting and bleak; comparable to Acla'.
Warning (rated NR): violence, including physical child abuse; sexual themes; sexual scenes; adult themes; mild profanity.
