From Vladimir Nabokov's novel, comes this tale of a fourteen year old temptress (Dominique Swain) and the man obsessed with her. A professor moves into a small town to take a teaching position and boards in a home with a widow and her daughter. Both the females have an interest in the fellow, but his focus is quite selective, is set on youth. Yet, in an attempt to get closer to the girl, he marries the widow..., and soon finds himself sole guardian when his wife dies in an accident. For a short time, our hero is in utopia, but as the lass "matures," her interests in other males create complications. Originally, no studio in the USA was willing to carry this film due to its rather sensual depiction of a young adolescent girl.
