A financially suffering musician agrees to marry a Russian woman for a large sum of money so that she can obtain Czech citizenship during the Communist regime. Trouble starts when she races off to Germany and her mother then dies, the woman's five year old son now standing at his stepfather's door in need of a guardian. Both at first reluctant but eventually won over, man and boy grow to love and respect one another in a country nearing political revolution. A highly praised and loved film which took away the Oscar for Best Foreign film. Funny and touching; Chalimon is a real charmer! Brought to us by the father/son team Zdenek and Jan Sverak. Recommended!
