Following the murder of his son by Nazis, an elderly man decides to care for his eight year old granddaughter (Salomee Stevenin) rather than letting the lass fall into the hands of her neglectful mother. Yet, he cannot bring himself to tell the child of her father's fate, instead weaves a big lie that keeps the deceased alive in both of their minds. Is this route for the worse..., or might the deception hold some sort of benefit for all? Regardless of your opinion on this matter, The Green House is an absolutely lovely film, both literally and figuratively, which is as equally touching as it is comical; directed by Philippe De Broca, who also brought us King of Hearts. Recommended!
