A twelve year old boy (David Ladd) finds an abandoned and abused dog then takes it home and nurses it back to health. The animal pays the youngster back by helping him pull a milk cart into the city once his grandfather falls ill and can no longer work. But its cruel ex-owner is nearby and eventually decides he wants the dog back. Can our little hero keep his new pet and pal out of the clutches of evil? Actually, this is just a subplot to a more touching one about a child aspiring to be an artist yet too poor to pursue his dreams, especially once his grandfather dies and leaves him with nothing but debts. A thoroughly pleasant family film!

Warning (rated NR): mild violence.
