Leave it to director Peter Greenaway to bring us the world's only (to my knowledge) documentary on bathrooms. As the aesthetics, or lack of, of twenty-six lavatories are explored, a variety of discussion is to be found on issues such as the "toilet taboo" and the water-closet's history. No, not a major focus on the kids, but what such piece would be complete without some tykes in the tub? Once such segment, entitled "L is for Lost Soap," is quite funny, has a boy of about ten desperately searching for a bar of soap he dropped. Often witty and oddly interesting.
Warning (rated NR): moderate nudity.
